Why Is The Controversy A National Debate?

The video shot by Karan Johar includes B-Town Stars like Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Shahid Kapoor, Malaika Arora, Arjun Kapoor, Vicky Kaushal, Varun Dhawan, and filmmaker Ayan Mukherjee among others. The ‘Saturday Night Vibes’ video in which you can see all the stars created a stir on social media when some users started sharing supposedly drugged state screenshots of the artists.

The controversy became a subject of debate when politician Manjinder Singh Sirsa shared the video on Twitter to object against the drug abuse. Sirsa, an MLA, and member of Shiromani Akali Dal has condemned all the artists involved in the video and demanded FIR against them.

Sirsa’s Open Letter To Bollywood:

Milind Deora Responds:

The former Telecom Minister Milind Deora came in support to Karan Johar’s House Party and slammed Sirsa of defaming the people in the video. He added that his wife Pooja Shetty Deora was also present in the party and nobody was in the drugged state. In his tweet, Deora also hoped for an unconditional apology from the Akali Dal MLA.

Not long ago, Hardik Pandya was trolled mercilessly which could have cost him his place in the World Cup Team. The sexist remarks from the Indian Cricket Team’s allrounder came in the show of Karan Johar which were utterly disappointing. The two incidents aren’t similar due to the fact that Manjinder Singh Sirsa is speculating the artists to be stoned. Although if found guilty of the use of narcotic or cocaine, there is rigorous imprisonment of one year.

The internet seems divided on the controversy. Some people associated with the Bollywood fraternity are pleading not to blame the whole Bollywood for one incident while others see it as a publicity stunt since actors-actresses are soft targets.

Bollywood Stars like Deepika, Ranbir, Vicky, Shahid, Malaika, Arjun, and Varun have a huge fan following among youth in India. And these allegations will surely tarnish their image, irrespective of what message reaches out to the young fans.

The only question which remains is “Why not come forward and diffuse the controversy?” After all, Ranbir Kapoor said in the video,” What the F**ck is he recording?”
